Hindustan Unilever Limited has taken a very important decision of removing the word normal from all of its beauty products all across the globe. Not only this, another change that will be inculcated in all the products will be that digital modification of wither the body shape or the skin colour of individuals will be discontinued.
All these changes are being done to have a broader and more equitable outlook of beauty and to stop setting any form of standards for beauty.
Unilever is a goods giant and the products are consumed all over the world and given the fact that it has a huge audience it cannot promote any form of discrimination as the world largely moves towards more inclusivity and accepting people for who they are.
People are changing their buying preferences and are wanting to purchase only from brands that take into account all of these factors and set no standards for beauty. The sustainability goals of the company have also been set and the company now wants to make products that will not hinder in promoting a better world in any aspect may it be environmental or body positivity.
In a statement, Unilever also said that it is now moving towards a more equitable world and to promote that more advertisements from the company will now focus on diverse groups and groups that are either under represented.
To remove the word normal is a very big step as it is of utmost significance to let people know that every skin colour and every body type is normal and the narrow beaty ideals that are held by most people are wrong and need to stopped.
Global research has time and again showed that companies that set standards of beauty lead to many people feeling discriminated against. A product by Unilever called Fair and Beauty was also changed to Glow and Lovely after facing backlash from the people for promoting fairness as being more beautiful.
Another major brand Dove under Unilever also partnered with a number of matrimonial sites to have a positive impact and drop the use of the words like tall and fair.
