Online Sales for Black Friday to Break Records as Consumers Skip Stores

Given the current situation of the pandemic, most customers this year are likely to go in for online shopping modes instead of the conventional visiting of stores to buy products.

According to preliminary data received from Adobe Analytics the sales are likely to shoot up between $8.9 billion to $9.6 billion which shows a whopping increase of about 29% as compared to the sales last year. A lot will also depend on the late-night shopping which takes place, data for the same is yet to be received.

More than 40% of the total sales was smartphones which also shows a significant increase trend from the data of last year’s sale. Usually on Black Friday sales, the crowds go frenzy and there are long lines of customers vying to buy products at unbelievable prices and discounts.

This year the surge in online shopping has been witnessed as customers still look in for hefty discounts but the scare of moving to outdoor shopping due to the pandemic remains.

According to Adobe data, it could very well become the largest online sales day and could go down in history. Even on Thanksgiving, the online sales jumped a significant number, that is, 21.5% and constituted a sale of $5.1 billion.

With almost all brands offering sales on the online platforms, it became easier for the customers to choose this mode and avoid going out. Stores obviously received less customers and saw a dip from the usual Black Friday sales.

This year the products which were sold out the most apart from smartphones were, toys- Star Wars miniatures, the Hot Wheels nerfs and a number of different video games including 3D ones.

Apart from these, the electronics section saw a huge sale of the Apple AirPods, air fryers and the Fire TV stick sold by Amazon. The apparel products were sold in significant numbers however, it is quite low in comparison to the sales last year. Sweaters and other clothing pieces are clearly not the top most priority this year. It is believed that this could be largely due to the current pandemic where mostly people are opting for work from home and go in for casual clothing for that purpose.
