Coca-Cola Owned ‘Powerade’ Set to Up its Beverage Portfolio

Later, this month, we will witness Powerade Ultra and Powerade Power Water in our nearby supermarkets. It is introducing a new sports drink after 13 years. In 2007 it introduced Powerade Zero.

Shane Grant, president of Coca-Cola North America’s stills business unit, observed shift in demands of sports beverages.

He said, “We’re responding to the shifting demands of the sports drink category with innovations that deliver on Powerade fans’ demands for no sugar and a range of hydration solutions for all sweat occasions, the definition of sports and athletes are constantly evolving. Hydration is no longer limited to sports – it’s a necessity for anyone living an active lifestyle”

Powerade Power Water is the best in workouts like walking and Jogging. Whereas, Powerade Ultra makes endurance training more fruitful and efficient by giving more energy during the workout as it contains branched-chain amino acids and creatine.

Coke’s shares have risen by 19% and has a market value of $243 billion. While, PepsiCo’s stocks gained almost 28% and have a market value of $194 billion.

PepsiCo owns Gatorade and Muscle Milk, and accounts for 69% of the sports-drink market. Coke on the other hand owns Powerade and it accounts for 25%. Jointly, both these brands are the leading force of $10.6 billion industry.

Report by Grand View Research suggests that there will be surprising growth in U.S. sports drink market, supposedly, 7.8% compound growth rate between 2019 and 2025.
