An official statement has been made by WhatsApp that they will very soon be adding a new feature to the app, that is, of disappearing messages. This new feature should be rolled out globally by the end of this very month. The details of this new feature were however given some time before when FAQ page was created by WhatsApp.
Users have been waiting for this feature from quite some time now. This fashion of disappearing messages was created by Snapchat some years ago and now it was spotted in a beta version of the WhatsApp. This new feature will allow the users to manually select an option on both the individual as well as the group chats to automatically delete all new messages after a period of seven days.
The disappearing messages feature that will be rolled out by WhatsApp will however differ from the already existing one at Telegram which allows the users to themselves decide the duration of the automatic deletion of texts. WhatsApp messages on the other hand will disappear after seven days without an option to change the duration. Snapchat also has different features of deletion altogether.
WhatsApp feels that a period of seven days is adequate enough for the users to finish a conversation pertaining to a particular subject and at the same time they do not have to worry about the texts because they will no longer be permanent. They feel that to start with a period of seven days feels appropriate to the company.
This feature will have to manually switched on for each and every chat window may that be individual or group. Once enabled, then the users will not have to worry about the deletion of the messages.
Users will still have the option of screenshotting the messages if they require so for a period of seven days and at the very same time the chats will also be made available in the user backups. So in a way this new feature will more neatly fit into the category of clearing up the conversations rather than a feature that deleted messages in a permanent form.
