admin The Google Discover page gets a much awaited Web Stories update. This update promises to bring users some of the best visual content from around the World Wide Web. Located on top of the Discover carousel, the Web Stories option is available to Google users in India, America and Brazil. Google plans on further expanding the feature.
Accessing the Novel Feature
Functioning like the Stories feature on Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook, Google Stories will be displayed at the top of the Discover page of the Google mobile app for both android and iOS users. Viewed as thumbnails with headlines attached to them, tapping stories will take user to a full screen display of the covered pictures and videos. The company promises an ‘immersive visual experience’ with this novel feature. Tapping the screen upon the completion of one story will lead the user to the next, they can also swipe to a completely different story carousel. However, currently as the feature is still in the infancy stages of its growth, it does not automatically cycle through different story pages- unlike the stories feature on Instagram. This function has to be performed manually by the user. Google also provides the option to share these Web Stories or read related articles to the story being viewed. The names of the story publishers is featured underneath each individual story on the feed. Google also added that there will not be any extra revenue share for Story ads. Each site that posts a Story is in complete control of the content of publication.
Specifics of the Rollout
The development of this feature was announced by Google back in 2018. The Web Stories feature is open to both individual contributors as well as publishers. In India, the feature is available in both Hindi and English. Google declared that within hours of inaugurating the update, thousands of Web Stories had already been uploaded by websites across the world.
