After a span of more than 400 years, Earth will get to see an astonishing celestial dance which will be a treat to the eye by Jupiter and Saturn which will form an arch like conjunction. These two planets are amongst the largest planets in the solar system.
This great astronomical phenomenon will be visible on the night of 21st December which will not only show the great conjunction but will also mark the winter solstice, that is, the longest night in the year 2020 for the whole of Northern Hemisphere.
These two planets are all set to nearly overlap each other and form a kind of double planet. Such an event has been largely seen in the Middle Ages, thereby making people more curious and more eager to watch this rare and astonishing phenomenon.
This rare astronomical conjunction last occurred in the year 1623 and would likely occur again only after 2080 according to the scientists. It is however important to note that the distance between the two planets shall remain the same, it is only the angle of viewing that will be differed. From our planet, Saturn and Jupiter will be visible at only a minute distance apart of 0.1 degrees.
They will come in conjunction as they will have a similar longitude, it is usually referred to as the Great Conjunction to make people aware of the uniqueness and the rarity of such a phenomenon occurring.
This conjunction will be visible on the horizon and to the naked eye but in order to separate the two planets, a binocular or a telescope will be required as they are only at a gap of 0.1 degrees according to the angle.
During this phenomenon, Saturn will appear to be smaller and fainter and Jupiter will be on the left side. Technically, there will be at a gap of 450 million miles from Saturn to Earth and 550 million miles away from Jupiter to Earth. Not only this, with the help of a telescope, you will be able to see one of the brightest moons alongside the planets.
