Facebook Messenger gets a long overdue reboot, as a new look is customized for the messaging app. Facebook announced plans of introducing customized chat colours and themes, custom reactions and selfie stickers to the messenger settings- to enable the creation of an authentic custom experience for its valued users. This string of planned changes was inaugurated by updating the Messenger logo. The new Messenger logo features a blue-to-pink gradient- much like the famed Instagram logo. Updating the messenger app on your smartphones will make the conspicuous logo change visible. The updates will roll out in a few months across the world- starting with North America. The goal of this cross platform connectivity is to create a truly integrated space of networking- unencumbered by app boundaries.
Promise of a Dynamic Personalized Experience of Connectivity
Aiming for the ever-so-novel pinnacles of service personalization, the tech giant plans on letting users use their selfies to customize stickers on this rebooted Messenger 2.0. Emulating Snapchat’s strategy of self-destructing messages, Facebook has also announced its future plans of including a similar feature- titled the Vanish Mode- on Messenger. This will allow messages to disappear after they have been viewed or when users exit the chat. The proposed chat themes including options like love and tie-dye– that are to be introduced in a phased manner. This reboot has been called ‘the future of messaging’ by the VP of Messenger, Stan Chudnovsky. According to Facebook, the purpose of this overhaul is to create a ‘more dynamic, fun and integrated way to stay connected’ with people.
A Truly Holistic, Integrated Platform
The proposed phased changes in the upcoming months are a part of the larger proposal of the tech giant to effectively integrate with its other social media platforms. Changes like Messenger Rooms, Integrated messaging across Instagram and Facebook, watching videos with friends- were also introduced by Facebook over the last few months. This phased roll out of myriad changes is in tune with the integration of Facebook messenger with Instagram. This integration enables users to send messages from Messenger to Instagram and vice-versa. Future updates will include features like animated message effects, message controls, improved blocking and reporting features.
