admin We are on the brisk of getting to know more minor planets in the darkness beyond Neptune which are circling Sun and this has improved the probability for the scientist to find a ninth planet in our solar system. The Astronomers have discovered almost 139 planets beyond Neptune orbiting our Sun.
This new addition has increased nearly 5 per cent of the current Trans Neptunian Object (TNO) tally which counts to about 3,000 objects, the researchers claim.
Between 2013 and 2017 in the first four years of operations, the data gathered by the Dark Energy Survey (DES) was used by the scientists in the research. There is a big telescope in Chile which is a 520-megapixel Dark energy Camera which helps in the observation and study of Heaven.
The project name is very straight forward in suggesting the aim of it, i.e., to get more information about the dark side of Dark Energy which is all around us in the universe. DES not only searches for dark energy but its high-resolution imagery can help us identify small objects in our solar system.
“Many of the programs we’ve developed can be easily applied to any other large datasets, such as what the Rubin Observatory will produce,” lead author Pedro Bernardinelli, a physics and astronomy graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, said in a statement.
“There are lots of ideas about giant planets that used to be in the solar system and aren’t there anymore, or planets that are far away and massive but too faint for us to have noticed yet,” study co-author Gary Bernstein, an astronomy and astrophysics professor at the University of Pennsylvania, said in the same statement.
The research work was very subtle and sharp as they first started out with 7 billion dots detected by DES imagery which was then studied and eventually 22 million objects were left to decipher. The final cut was made by 400 TNO after a week-long study of them in the night.
