World bank has recently announced that workers need to get back into office, revealing that work-from-office will begin soon.
Under the Presidency of Ajay Banga, world bank has been under constant change. Although the changes made before were about pressing challenges like climate crisis, this change from work-from-home to work-from-office is known to be brought about on a much more practical level.
Employees are called to work-from-office.
This year, during may, there was report released, stating that the Bank was soon going to announce a strict return-to-work policy. As soon as the staff were alerted about this they were worried that they had to go to work 5 days a week after enjoying the flexibility of work-from-home for the past three years.
Word has been getting around that, World Bank Group employees will be required to work-from-office only 4 days a week starting this September.
Banga said that while he wants to maintain a flexible workplace, he wants staff in the office more than three days a week, according to audio of a town hall meeting.
There was a huge backlash by the employees of this bank but it was quelled down by Banga mentioning that he doesn’t believe in tracking hours closely or dictating employee hours. He too will be taking advantage of the flexibility as well, creating a ‘flexible’ work place.
But employees argue that the announcement was rushed, with no guidance on how to apply this new “flexibility” and that managers were not consulted.
The result is “utter confusion and resentment” and that “flexibility” has become little more than a buzzword, it said.
