IMF Head Warns Global Economy Will Face Tough Recession in 2023

The global economy will face a tougher recession in the coming month of 2023 as the support system of global growth that is China, Europe, and the US facing weakening activities of finance. “2023 will face a massive recession than the year we leave behind,” said the International Monetary Fund’s Managing Director Kristaline Georgieva.

Since China has retrieved its zero-COVID policy and remarked on a chaotic reopening of its economy, consumers there remain waryas corona casesrise. “For the first time in China’s history, the growth in 2022 is likely to be at or below global growth,” Kristalina said.Another reason for the recession is the war in Ukraine that hit prices high and raised interest rates. In October 2023, IMF will cut its global outlook for economic growth. It is expected that 1/3 of the global economy will face a severe recession.

There is less demand for the products that are manufactured in China and other Asian countries like Thailand and Vietnam which leads to a downturn in the United States. The highest interest rates also make borrowing more expensive, because of this reason, companies are not taking interest in investing for expanding their business. The lack of growth trigger investors to pull money out of an economy and so countries have less cash to pay for critical importation of food and other essentials. This kind of slowdowns currency rates against prosperous economies.

The Asia-Pacific relied on China as a crucial trading partner and for economic support in times of crisis for decades. Today, Asian economies are facing the long-lasting economic effect of how China handled the pandemic. The rising demand for commodities such as oil and iron ore is supposed to hike prices just as inflation appeared to have peaked. It is the toughest financial condition for countries across the world.
