Passengers travelling to the USA no longer have to take a COVID-19 test within a day before their flights, easing one of the last remaining government mandates that were to be followed to prevent spread of COVID -19.
Centers for disease control and prevention have determined that it’s no longer necessary. The officer evaluating the situation that he would further check on the situation every 90 days and the rule would be reinstated if a new variant emerges.
The Biden Administration laid the rules last year as it moved away from restrictions that banned non-essential travel from several other countries and instead focused on classifying individuals by the risk they pose on others. It was mandatory for a non-immigrant adult travelling to the USA needs to be fully vaccinated.
The initial mandate allowed those who were fully vaccinated to show a negative test certificate before three days of travel, whereas unvaccinated people had to show a negative test certificate within one day of travel.
In November the administration levied strict requirements of presenting a negative report one day before travel as the new variant had swept the world, the rule implied to everyone regardless of their vaccination status.
Recently, the administration decided that it was no longer necessary to levy such rules on international travellers and therefore have decided to ease the rules after the CDC ended the mask requirement.
