A Ray of Hope Vaccine Might Be Ready Before Christmas

A vaccine may be available before Christmas this year for a group of people, Kate Bingham the U.K chair for government’s vaccine taskforce stated in an interview. Although she also said that an early 2021 launch will be more likely but the wait anyways will now not be long.

The data from the phase three of the human trials is due by the end of this year by a number of leading vaccine making companies. This data will provide the efficacy of these vaccinations on the individuals and if proven to be working effectively, will be launched into the market. The endpoint of the vaccine should be protection from the virus which will include recovery as well as lowering of symptoms with minimal side effects only.

Currently, in the United Kingdom there are two potential vaccines in phase 3 of clinical human trials. They are

  • Oxford AstraZeneca adenovirus-vectored vaccine
  • Novavax’s protein-adjuvant vaccine

If these two vaccines or even one of them prove that they are efficient and safe for human use, then an early release that is before Christmas itself can be anticipated. But it is better to expect an early next year release since that is more realistic in the given scenario.

However, there is a very big possibility that these vaccinations will be imperfect and may not work for everyone. Rather than preventing the virus, it shall only work towards the reduction of symptoms in the patients.

The British giant who is very ahead in this vaccination race AstraZeneca had earlier in a statement pointed out that the response shown by their vaccine was very encouraging and at the same time, it worked very well on both the age spectrums, that is, the elderly as well as the youth.

Even Pfizer has said that despite the data lag that is there, a vaccine is still very much possible in the year 2020 only. They say that they have very much reached the last mile.

A vaccine is being worked for in almost all parts of the world and each one us waits desperately for one. However, it is extremely important that it passes the scientific test before being given to the public. There is not one but many rays of hope that a vaccine is going to save the human race.
