Taylor Swift, the American singer and songwriter won the IFPI world’s best-selling music artist for the year 2019. Much of her success came from her album “Lover”, which helped her beat the like of the artists like Ed Sheeran and Korean pop band, BTS. The announcement came on Monday from the recording industry group IFPI.
This is the pop star’s second time in her singing career that she topped the list for most sales globally. The last time it happened was in 2014 when she released her first album “1989.”
“Taylor Swift is the epitome of a truly global star,” enunciated IFPI CEO Frances Moore. “She continues to grow as an artist and maintains an incredibly strong connection with her fanbase, whilst continuing to evolve her sound with each album. It is a pleasure to be able to present her with the Global Recording Artist of the Year award for the second time.”
Swift won the award as her new album “Lover” was released in 2019.The album included the likes of the ‘Lover’–the title track, and a single “ME!” and few other songs.
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was just below Swift on the list and was followed by Post Malone, the rapper, and Billie Eilish the youngest in the top 5 who was also the one to take away the top Grammy Awards in January.
Drake was at the top of the list in 2018 while he in 2019 fell to the eighth place in 2019. Based on the consumption of music across multiple platforms throughout the globe is taken into consideration before making the final list.
Queen, the band formed in 1970 got fifth position in the list as they came out with Bohemian Rhapsody.
