Eddie Awards started in 1951 and has since then celebrated the works of Editors working in Films and Television Shows.
This year the competition was fierce and it was reflected in the nominations.
For Best Edited Feature Film (Drama)- Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Joker (JeffGroth), and Parasite (Jinmo Yang) were nominated.
Bong Jong Ho’s South Korean film Parasite won the award and was one of the hottest topics of the Award Ceremony held on 17th January at the famed Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Yang was amazed as he won the award as he made it to the stage.
This is what Yang said, “Oh my god, I definitely didn’t see this coming, so I didn’t prepare a speech, and my brain is going crazy. First of all, this all feels like a dream. I can’t believe this is happening. I’d like to first of all thank director Bong Joon Ho for letting me edit this film…”
Tom Eagles’ work on Jojo Rabbit made it to the final nominations alongside Dolemite is My Name, The Farewell, Knives Out and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Eagles’ won the award in the category of Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy).
Axel Geddes won the award for Toy Story 4 in the category of Animated Feature Films. It was nominated alongside Frozen 2 and I lost my Body.
Todd Douglas Miller won it for Apollo 11 as the Best Edited Documentary (Feature). It was nominated alongside American Factory, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, and Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound.
Jake Pushinsky won it for What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali in the category of Best Edited Documentary (Small Screen).
It is a fascinating fact that 11 of last 15 Eddie Award winners went on to win Oscar in the same year. This list includes the John Ottman who won it for Bohemian Rhapsody for the year 2019.
