Jay Shah who was earlier the BCCI Secretary will now take over as the new president of the Asian Cricket Council. He is 32 years old and will be relacing the Bangladesh’s Nazmul Hassan as he takes over the new job.
The meeting was held recently in a virtual manner and he was made the president unanimously for the continental cricket body. He is youngest person to take over the role as President which is setting a milestone in itself. Given his credentials, a lot is being expected out of Shah as he takes over the organisation.
Shah in a statement remarked that the Asian Cricket Council is a very good platform to foster healthy rivalry between the different teams and players. He also said that with the help of the Asian Cricket Council, cricket can be taken even to the inert corners of Asia, thereby giving an opportunity to everyone who has the potential.
Shah also said that given the pandemic, it will be a little difficult to get both Men’s and Women’s cricketing tournaments back on track, but he is ready to take on the challenge and ensure that all the demands are met.
He says that he is ready to bring out innovative solutions and adapt to this new normal and rise to the occasion.
The Asian Cricket Council has a lot of work on hand, given the fact that last year owing to the pandemic, the senior men’s cricket tournament had to be cancelled. Now the same is being planned in the month of June 2021 and in Sri. Lanka.
Shah was also the youngest person to take over office as the secretary of the BCCI in the year 2019. He has also worked at domestic levels before taking over the BCCI and now the ACC.
It remains to be seen what valuable input will Shah put in the ACC and where his efforts will take them. Cricket like the other sports is slowly treading into the new normal and players as well as the cricket boards are adjusting to the changing environment.
