Starbucks Model a ‘Take-away’ Only Medium for the US and Canada

On 16th March 2019 Starbucks announced that it is going to shift to “to-go” medium for each of its outlet located in the US and Canada. This move is appreciated as cases od COVID-19 are regularly increasing in the American Continent and social-distancing is advised to everyone.

The coffee giant will continue this move for at least two weeks and them the management will decide if it needs to be extended. There will be ordering through the app, the drive-thru at certain outlets, walk-in counters and home delivery wherever available.

The latest orders have closed all the social gathering places like schools, colleges, malls, etc and most people have been allotted work from home.

Rossann Williams, president of Starbucks’ U.S. company-operated and Canada businesses was stating on Monday and talked about how quickly COVID-19 can spread.

He said, “As we all know, the situation with COVID-19 is extremely dynamic and we will continue to review the facts and science and make the proactive decisions necessary to protect our partners, customers and communities. Every community’s needs are incredibly different. We want to make sure we play a constructive role by taking responsible actions, in partnership with the CDC and local public health authorities, so we can continue to do what’s right for our partners and customers.”

Starbuck’s CEO Kevin Johnson also talked about having plans to slow the virus epidemic and said: “the health and well-being of our customers and partners while also playing a constructive role in supporting local health officials and government leaders as they work to contain the virus.”

With Starbucks, McDonald’s is also self-service beverage bars and kiosks at the company-owned restaurants.

The top management is likely to make a decision soon regarding the plan forward to counter coronavirus growth.

The Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, announced that all the bars, cafes and restaurants can only have a take-out or delivery basis model for some time due to coronavirus concerns.
