As on most occasions the tourists in Venice outnumber the local residents, Venice tourist department officials stated that from January 16, 2023 visitors coming to Venice for a day trip will have to pay a fee and also make prior reservations. This step would help them to manage the number of tourists they see daily.
If a visitor does not plan to stay over at any hotel or lodge in Venice, he is then expected to sign up Online declaring his day of visit. The amount can range from 3-10 Euros depending upon how advanced the booking is done and whether or not the visitor is visiting during peak tourist season.
There will be a booking and payment system along with a QR code and you have to present this payment proof when asked to do so, failing which a fine of 300 Euros is liable on the Visitor. Those visitors who have a booking with lodge and hotels need not pay the visiting fees.
This fee is also applicable to someone planning to visit Venice by Cruise, even if you are visiting for a few hours as a cruise stopover still you need to make the payment unless it is already added in your package.
Children who are below 6 years of age, especially abled-people and those who have a vacation home in Venice need not pay the fees, they only need to present the proof of real estate tax payments.
This fee will definitely limit the number of visitors in Venice and will make it a wholesome experience for visitors without the city being very crowded and rushed.
