As per reports, Google Fit for iOS has added the feature to track and measure heart and respiratory rate using an iPhone’s camera. This feature was first introduced for Google Pixel smartphones in February. The fitness app can measure an iPhone user’s heart rate when they apply light pressure on the rear camera lens. Also, it can work if the user’s phone doesn’t have an internet connection. On the other hand, the front camera tracks a user’s breaths per minute (BPM).
Google stated that Google Fit on iOS is receiving heart and respiratory rate measurement features. Google tracks subtle movements in a smartphone user’s body to measure their heartbeat and BPM.
By placing a finger on the rear camera and applying light pressure, Google Fit measures a user’s heart rate. If a user is in a low light location, the fitness tracking app can use the smartphone’s flash to increase accuracy. On the other hand, users can place their hand and iPhone handset in front of a light source. Google measures the heartbeat by tracking “subtle changes in the colour of your fingers” to approximate blood flow. Also, the heart rate algorithms account for lighting, skin tone, age, and other such factors.
Just in 30 seconds process, it shows users a graph with beats per minute. Once measurements are taken, users can select to save the essentials to Google Fit or not. The accuracy of the process is discovered by Google Fit’s algorithms which also account for factors like age and skin tone.
The respiratory rate measuring feature that works by tracking a user’s breath when they keep the phone steady in front of them with the torso visible in the app’s display. On-screen prompts in the app will give directions to users when they need to hold still. The subtle chest movements when you breath will be spotted and the app will have the user’s breath rate.
