The most popular social media platform among every age group now has updated its privacy policy. This has given rise to a lot of speculation if one should continue using the platform or not with regard to privacy concerns.

WhatsApp now will be sharing all data that it receives through the messages being shared to its parent company Facebook and they will be entitled to share the same with third parties as well. WhatsApp has now been giving its users a notification to accept the new terms and conditions. If one does not do so by the 8th of February, the account of the individual will be deleted from WhatsApp.

The coming of this news has now sparked another debate, as to should one shift from the platform or let privacy be violated. Elon Musk who is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX recommended that people shift to a new app that is Signal after which the app saw an entire new range of subscribers on the platform.

Signal has taken full use of this opportunity and has also changed its tag line to “Say Hello to Privacy” which takes a dig at the new policy of WhatsApp.

Another app that has received quite an overwhelming number of subscribers is Telegram which has also ensured that no privacy concerns will be raised.

In the European Union however, according to legal terms, WhatsApp has not been allowed to share its data with Facebook. All other parts of the world will however have to abide by this new policy.

Messages being shared will no longer be end to end encrypted. However, there has been a lot of false information being spread on various platforms in reference to the new policy being implemented. As for now, WhatsApp will not be showing any advertisements but that is subject to change.

Information that will be collected will involve the features that you make use of, your display picture, your status, number of hours spent on the app and the information that you fill in the about section.

Users will now have to take a call if they want to stick to this popular social media platform. Others available in the market right now, may be good alternatives, however if they will be able to provide the services with the same quality or not is still a question that lingers.
